Bought myself a welder tonight. Probably a mid 1950痴 Forney 180 amp buzz box. Made in USA. $40 Cdn complete with cables.

They also came with a twin carbon arc torch for heating and brazing. They didn’t work very well (IMO) and found oxy-acetylene to be way better. I threw my torch and soldering iron away years ago. Wish I still had them for interest’s sake.

Here’s a pic of my other two Forney welders. The restored one on the right my dad bought for the farm off the Snap-on truck back in the mid 60’s.

I had a great old Baldor Charger my Grandfather bought new for the shop... paid a good price for it... 6 and 8 volt.

It also had a fan.

Let a friend borrow it and he said it got knock around... anyway... the shield was bent enough to keep the fan blade from turning and it burned up...

That was the only tool I had from my Grandfather... I should have been more careful...

Here’s mine receiver mounter. Made in USA by ACME, the same makers of the vise in the Roadrunner cartoons.

The handle was missing and I fabbed up a new one. Otherwise OEM. They’re a little too impractical for modern day use but you have to give it points for the cool factor!
