OK, I don't have one other than the glove box that came mounted on the right side and includes the cup holder. Right now in it I keep pins, bushings, clips, gloves, a knife, tape measure and thats all it will fit. Actually looking to mount a real tool box somewhere once I figure out what to get. So what do you have??

Here's mine: a tool belt mounted on my FEL tower. I also have an old floppy leather brief case fitted over the top of the grill between the radiator and FEL.

At the time I took this picture, the belt wasn't very full. I now have it pretty much filled and sometimes even clip the carriage house door opener to it if leaving the house unattended when working below.

I've been looking for a steel toolbox to mount on mine, but all I've found so far are the El' Cheapo ones from Farm & Fleet, TSC, etc.

Everywhere I look, I see plastic, plastic, plastic. I like the no-rust quality of it, but wonder what a couple hundred hours of vibration will do to the mounting surface...I want to mount it behind the seat and fender brace and it'd be just my luck that it'd fall off and end up underneath the cutter while mowing...

I have a JD 5203 and it came with a tool box mounted on the fender. It came with the flat fenders so this is not a problem. The tool box is plastic, so that does not seem to be a problem. I have about a hundred hours on the tractor and the box seems to be holding up fine. I have all kinds of pliars, screw drivers, and adjustable wrenches in it.

If you have the flat fenders, you might go by a JD dealer and see the tool box and how it is mounted.

I fabricated one from a small $6 ammo box, I didn't need a huge one. It bolts to the ROP mounting and doesn't extend further than the rear tire.

Thanks. Those are some creative ideas in mounting tool boxes. Not sure if the ammo box is the right size/shape, for me, I would think things would get lost with it being narrow and deep. I'll have to check them out. I have a NewHolland TN-70 and was thinking of mounting a standard 20" wide box between the ROPs. Anyone do something like this or have a TN with a mounted tool box?

Drivadesl:

I don't know your tractor, but I had a NH 1320 on which I made a wood platform, behind the seat, that rested on the inside fender edges and was held in place by a homemade bracket that fit into the socket for the triangle warning sign. I put a hole in the bracket so I could clip on a harness snap to hold it in place. I fastened a quality plastic tool box on the platform. It was still in place after 15 years when I sold the tractor.

Mine is simple, an ammo box. I have it mounted on top of rubber washers so that the box is 1/4" off the fender. It is lined with 1/4" plywood. These things should help with the rust and vibration problems. Tool box gave me a perfect place to mount a fire extinguisher. I keep a 4 lb hammer, punch, pliers, and Crescent wrench for tools. I also have a rag or two and work gloves and sunglasses.

Here is mine. It is an old ammo box and it sits on the fender perfectly. Its not bolted down or anything and I haven't had a problem with it moving around or bouncing like I thought I was going to have. I got the paint for it to match the tractor but havent got around to painting it.
I have a short chain, basic tools, extra pins, and clevis's. I am looking for another one to put on the other fender so I can keep my tools and chains seperate.

I had the problem of trying to find a place for a box and a box to fit available places as well as the plastic box problem. I found a space between the FEL arm and the side of the engine cover large enough to fit a plastic and aluminum diamond plate box from HF. Surely the box would not last if bolted on so I will weld a holder to surround the box on 5 sides and put some foam rubber weather stripping on the metal to treat the box a bit better.

I have been too busy to complete the project, just have it about 1/2 welded up but will show pix later (maybe much later) when it is installed. Oh, and no, it will not fall out at any FEL position.

This is a small cab tractor with a tiny tool box behind the seat which is not big enough for didly. I may put a tool box on both sides of the FEL. Oh, I never take my FEL off even though it is easy and has its own props etc.

This isn't quite a toolbox, but it holds my Brotek thumb, 6 foot chain with hooks and 20ft chain with hooks. The cap is drilled to allow drainage. big black tie wraps though holes drilled in the pipe keep it in place.

Let me congratulate you for being the world's smoothest tractor driver. I couldn't make it 50 yards down my driveway before it fell off. :(

Well it helps when the containers are full and weigh a little bit. Also the lip around the top of the fender keeps it snug in place. I was going to put some velcro or screw them down but now it seems unessasary. When I want a tool or a chain I just lift the container down on the floor and pull what I need out.

Believe me disking up a plowed field and bush hogging some pretty uneven ground put it to the test. Passed with flying colors:D
