Yeah, great work Del, love the 3D effect of the marquetry...that's gotta take a lot of patience.

Well JF, I took a look at your website awhile back and saw some really nice work. What I do is very specific and outside of that I am a mere peasant to all the "royalty" of woodworkers shown here. Used to enjoy watching David Marks woodworking show when it was on tv.

Thanks robby, my stuff is pretty basic, and like anything you do a good bit of it loses some of the fun-factor that it once had, but...I was just telling swmbo that putting up a few rooms of crown actually sounds like fun right now after the last 16 months with an ongoing elbow problem. Funny how your viewpoint can change under different circumstances. ;)

Another guitar builder here. This one is a classical guitar built with a cedar top and cherry back/sides. I took a closeup picture of the decorative rosette that goes around the sound hole. Its made with little tiles of wood that are oriented to give a 3D effect to the design.

Fantastic... as a fellow woodworker, although a long time amateur... I can appreciate the pain of detail. Well, well done!

Thanks for the nice comments. I build guitars purely as a hobby so I'm never overly concerned about how long it takes me to finish one. The "decorative stuff" like the rosette, and multi layered trims and finish etc. take me about as much time to complete as building the functional "working" part of the guitar. A few years ago I took some classes from a professional luthier in Newport New Hampshire and that really helped.

Beautiful work, all. My projects are more modest, and haven't made anything in a number of years. Will try to find some images to post.

Meanwhile, the wife has adopted all of my woodworking gear and makes "critters" out of discarded wood scraps and other materials.

My woodwork is typically in the Arts & Crafts (Mission) style. After losing a number of trees to a wind and ice storm, I decided to try my hand at a more rustic style. These are a couple of pieces from my "Firewood Suite" series. The twigs are all air-dried maple, hand peeled with various draw knives. The lumber is cherry, sawn and kiln dried from two trees that died near my pond. The twisty stretcher on the table is a random twig I found while clearing a fence row. Never found another piece like it, though I wish I could! A few more pieces can be seen on my website, here: James Freeman - Works in Other Media
