Natural Sisal twine is digestible for cattle. Those round bales wrapped with sisal twine are fed with the twine on the bale and sisal twine is rarely if ever removed from round bales before they are fed. Many Cow/calf producers now are getting older and have cab tractors that they feed their round bales. They do not want to get out in the cold and mud 10-15 times a day just to cut netwrap or plastic twine off a bale.

Up here everyone worries about anti fungal or rat poison or something on sisal. I've never seen anything that says whats in it?

Just kidding, but I have not seen it used here very much in years. Eastern Ok is wet enough that most producers will not use it because it rots off of the bales too quickly. Personally I have not used it since the early 1980's. I can not sell bales that are not at least plastic twine wrapped and most request net. Inside storage would be the best, and I have seen several studies that show that it pays, but I would estimate 90% or more of the hay in Eastern Ok is stored outdoors on dirt lots.

Too wet here, almost no hay stored outside. About 50% spoilage outdoors. Tarped doesn't help much either.
I have to fix a few sheds this year or I won't have anywhere to put rounds. The roof has sagged too low to get into.

Personally I do not like to sell hay or buy hay. If it is my hay I know what I am getting. In OKLA. you might have one producer farming 3 sections but in the east we might have 20 producers per section with round balers. They are mostly cow/calf producers, dairy is only 4% by number of operators in the market here. Producers that sell hay here usually use poly 20,000 RB twine.You can still get sisal?
