Round Balers

Hey!

New to the forum and seeing what brands of Net Wrap people are using in their round balers.


I see alot of JD brand net wrap out there.

Whats everyones thoughts on net wrap its, positive and negatives of any brand.

I wanna start some custom baling this summer, seeing if it is worth it or if I'm wasting my time looking into it.

If you are going to custom bale, your customers should dictate whether you use net. Dictating TO customers only works for those who agree with you, the rest become someone else's customers. As to the brand of net used, start out with the net sold by the manufacturer of your baler, then experiment with what is locally available. If other brands aren't to be had within driving distance, it probably won't pay to ship from a retailer to your door.

G'day beware of some of the cheaper wrap out there as it can tear very easily, had one customer over here that was using it and i was out to him prob 4 times before he would listen and bought the better net, he kept telling me there had to be something wrong with his machine, but if i got him to put about 4.5 -5 wraps on it it was ok. Some people just won't listen and they are usually the ones to scream when they get the bill

We have moved to big squares from round now but having worked custom for many decades most customers insist on net these days but some still will not pay for it but tend to be the bigger customers so hard to say, aside from the square baler we still keep a NH round baler (twine) but with the limited market for round these days i won't be updating to net , another big square will be it's replacement eventually.
We've found no problems with cheaper net wrap in the past !

I use a new holland baler, and I trade after 5000 bales on machine.
The last 2 I never put twine in it,always net,it is a lot faster to bale
(since you roll it 2 turns compared to 10 with twine) I use the cheapest
around and never had any trouble.

For myself I would definatly choose net wrap over twine but thats my opinion. We dont have room to store all our bales inside and I think netwrap keeps the weather out better than twine.

I would say watch out for the generic wrap. I have had some negative experiances with cheap wrap but that doesnt mean that all cheap wrap is crap.

My next baler is going to be a big square. They stack so much better and there are more feeding options with them.

There are two basic net wraps, black and white. Black is very course and not very common any more. The white is the common on these days. Make sure your knife is sharp or you will not cut it cleanly. Just by a decent quality and all will be fine.

Black?? must be something different in other states. Havent seen black in Texas, we either have white, green, or an orangy color. depending on brand.

If you use a Deere baler you supposedly only can use Deere's net wrap. not very user friendly. New Holland's baler will use any wrap and even the cheaper stuuf works just fine in them. But as said on an above post, if you are gonna bale for the public, let your customer base dictate what they want done. if you only advertise one or the other you wont have near as many customers.
