Leveling BX2200 60\" MMM

I have spent considerable time crawling around the mower measuring the right vs. left blade height both parallel to the line of travel and to the axle and at various height adjustment settings. I have alwys noticed "streaks" in my bermuda lawn. I thought I was perhaps mowing too low. I raised my adjustment to 3" and still got the streaks. After checking I determined my right blade was lower than the left parallel to the line of travel. The mower owners manual says to adjust this, we are suppose to rely on the right (discharge side only). Well that was not the case. The left was higher. So I made the adjustment. Now when I measure the blades parallel to the line of travel and to the axle, my blades are within tolerable measurement. However, /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif, the right front antiscalp wheel is lower that the rest. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I can set all the rest of the rollers on the same setting, have the same clearance for the remaining 3, but the right front has to be "up" one hole! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Again the blades (which is what really matters) are level. Yes I have interchanged the rollers to see if there was some sort of wear or something else going on, but it is still the same. The Bota is mowing perfectly /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, but the setting for the right front anti-scalp roller has me wondering. By the way, it is a real treat measuring these blades on a setting of "2" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. You can sure sign me confused in SW Arkansas. GO HOGS!!!

Re: Leveling BX2200 60\" MMM

I understand your pain!!! When I took delivery of my 60"MMM for my BX, I went through the set up to check it out and found it to be out as well. So I reset everyting and agree the 2" is a real pain to measure on the left side. I cut down a clear plastic ruler to use, but I have since read where some have cut a 2" block to use and just "feel" it instead of trying to look under.

Anyhow, when I finally finished and everything was level within tolerances, my left front wheel was 1/2 hole higher than the rest. I looked everything over again and again, and decided it must be a manufacturing jig problem. I also recall reading others post with similar problems with the wheels.

I have went to keeping the wheels an extra hole high so they don't constantly turn. Of course this sometimes causes scalping around my trees that burm up at the trunk (have very rocky soil so the roots are shallow).

I wouldn't worry, but you may want to use the 2" block of wood next time, at least that is what I plan to do next season when I set it up again (at least check it).

Good luck,

I have noticed the same thing with mine. I just adjust it to where it should be and try not to let it bother me too much. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Leveling BX2200 60\" MMM

I bought a blade height gauge from John Deere to adjust my riding mower with and found out it works great with any deck......although it is plastic /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif it works like a champ and not too bad expensive either!

This comes in very handy trying to adjust for lower blade heights.

Re: Leveling BX2200 60\" MMM

I read in a post several months ago where some members use a nut and bolt to guage the blade height. They adjust the nut on the bolt until it is the proper distance from the bolthead; then lock it into position with a second nut.

I think I will try the nut and bolt method the next time that I level my deck.
