I'd forgotten the the 3-pt even had a float postion. It never occurred to me to try using it in that position. I'll give it a try.

Don't all 3phs float? There's no down pressure on mine so it will float up to the moon but only drop as far as my lever setting.

As was said, there is no down pressure on a 3ph. the only thing the position lever does is set the lower limit of the lift arm range, be it at the extreme bottom or the extreme top.
