Disc Harrows and Roto-tillers are both soil mixing implements.

I used to operate a 25-horsepower Kubota B3300SU tractor-loader, one of several predecessor models to the L2501. It would pull a Disc Harrow with 18" diameter pans but nothing heavier. It would take many, many passes with a light Disc Harrow to level ground.....but you may have the time. Wait for ideal soil moisture.

I am all for thoroughly triaiing equipment at hand prior to acquiring more clutter.

Another option would be a 72" rear/angle blade used on an angle. Implement weight is your friend in ground contact work. It is hard to give specific recommendations because I do not know your exact conditions.

Of course of course. But discs avoid the soil reversal and pulverizing effects of tillers. Every big farm around here has switched to minimum or no till and uses only discs and rippers but no plows. Anyway I recognize his can be a sensitive debate.

Official soil description is bouldery loam - there is quite a bit of clay as well. The area in question though used to be front lawn (not anymore!) and has some mature trees around - I値l try and take pictures tomorrow. There are roots here and there which makes get make ripping interesting :)

Boulders might be too much for a Field Cultivator. Gravel is OK but boulders sound rather immovable.

Perhaps a Chisel Plow in a relatively light iteration:

BUCKEYE TRACTOR: buckeye tractor chisel plow - Google Search

Cultivators are built lighter than Field Cultivators and have no spring protection for the tines. Cultivators usually do not penetrate deeper than 4" to 5".

Yeah... don稚 think there痴 any boulders there... right now I have discs (500# only) and a middle buster. Is it worth giving it a try with discs only? Probably won稚 bite because of lack of weight. Maybe I値l get a small cultivator and try it. What would be right moisture to do this?

Awesome link thank you! Middle busting then harrowing seems like a good idea - I will get to try it next month breaking new ground for gardens... will see how it goes then maybe fix my pasture.

I repaired my pig pastures by discing thoroughly and them smoothing with a landscape rake. It looked like a moonscape before, now you can't tell they were ever there. IMG_20180217_092653545_HDR.jpg
