Life Expectancy

Times have changed very quickly. My guess is that all these new computer run engines will not be enjoying the many, many decades of service that their predecessors did. Traditional diesels did not even require an electrical system! Now they rely on millions of semiconductor junctions (transistors), sensors, connectors and software to operate at all.

Flip open an equipment auction catalog and look at the hours. Lots of stuff has over 20,000 hours. I know this is industrial duty stuff and homeowner tractors will never last that long, but I don't think 4,000 hours is unrealistic.

I was told that stationary diesel engines powering generators, which would run at a constant speed, I suppose, are expected to get 12,000 hours. My neighbor just replaced their Ventrac tractor, which was mostly used for mowing, with a new one. They said they got $12000 for a trade-in, and that it had 15,000 hours on the clock! The dealer was going to clean it up and re-sell. I think it had a Kubota 3 cylinder, as does the new one.

We have an M95 with somewhere around 2200 hours, it has never even been in the shop except for a seat, I would be shocked if it didn't run well for years to come
