It is nice to have a project to do with the kids to promote memories BUT try to make it something that can be useful to you after their attention to it wanders. A nice cabin on or at least very near the ground would be better, easier to build and safer for the kids. It could be repurposed as a garden shed after the kids loose interest which I think would be pretty darned quick.

There used to be an old road where the trees are, was kind of a low spot for years till we filled it in.
Locusts trees would grow on the sides of the ditch. Dad would pay us kids $1 a day to cut Little locusts trees with an axe. That ended after I sliced my thumb while sharpening an axe.
