Has anyone attached Swivel hoist rings in place of hooks on there FEL? They make them so you can bolt them right on?

Granted I do not have a heavy duty FEL, 80 Koyker 4' bucket, but that is what I have. I did put plates on the inside of the bucket to prevent bending and nuts pulling through. I only use a 1" nylon strap. If it breaks then I have exceded the limit I want to lift and will find another way. I have not broke the strap yet.

I was thinking of 3 Swivel hoist rings, Aluminum plates on the top and bottom side of the bucket to give it strengh and to prevent bending and pulling through as you suggested.

I was thinking of 1/2" swivel hoist rings. What are you using.

Just to make sure, you are speaking about a "D" and a two bolt bent strap to capture the straight part of the "D". If so then I am using 1/2". I did not plate the top of mine, did not even cross my mind to. That ought to strenghten it up a bit though. I have been pleased with mine. They have done what I need them to do. Paid too much for them at Home Depot, if you have a Northern near by they are far more reasonable.

Swivel hoist rings will take there rated load in 360 degrees or 180 degree's.

KC, my misunderstanding of what you were talking about. Apple and orange. Maybe someone else will chime in here, just way too much knowledge on this site for someone not to have a good answer.

Find a link or picture of what you call a "swivil hoist ring". The item I associate with your post, are designed to have force pulling straight on them. I am concerned it couldn't handle a significant stress of a loader. Most stull being lifted or pulled in a loader is at an angle on the hood or ring.

I would be very leary of a 1" strap except in the lightest of load situations. Breaking the strap to determine the lift limit is completely the wrong idea. I want my lifting strap or chain to be multilple times stronger than my lifting capacity. Say your strap is rated for 1000 lbs and you loader lifts 750 lbs. Sounds safe. However, say your strap goes over a sharp edge is it still good for 1000 lbs? Say you need to lift and pull on something. Pulling now increases the force on the strap significantly. Personally, I dont use straps for lifting. Too many edges or ways to get bound or cut.

Maybe for you not for me. If my strap breaks then it means I have underestimated the load and will more than likely pull out a chain. My post stated "want to lift" not could lift. When I strap something in or on the lip of the bucket I know where the strap is laying, I am aware that every twist of a strap can cost up to 1/2 the straight pull strength. For me I will break a strap as a heads up about the load.

If you can possibly have it welded, I think you come out ahead welding on a reinforcing plate and a point of attachment for a chain hook.

Straps are fine for securing a load from shifting, but I'm like the others who are leery of using them for lifting. Sunlight, sharp objects, etc. don't wreck chains.

Synthetic slings are much stronger than chain, and cheaper to replace. my other issue is lift grade chain is very exspensive to buy, I can get cheaper nylon slings for a 1/4 of the price. I have a few pieces of wire rope for sharp objects.

I like your idea of welding Reinforcing plates, my local Koiti dealer has suggested welding at the top and along the attachment to the loader arms.

Laughin my butt off at the "2manyrocks" name...
I have the same problem at my place.
Assuming the name's not just a spinoff of something else....
What do you do with all yours, and what types of ways have you developed to move them?
Rocks are pretty much my primary intrest for now, as they have to go before anything else can be started.
In the past I've used pigs, trucks, winches, small backhoes, car hoods for stoneboats, and just plain muscle.
By far the best was pigs, because they keep working even when I couldn't.

I looked up the hocks you are talking about using, I wouldn't use them.
They will only handle loads placed directly on the swivel, if you get a side load it may fail.
I use weld on "D" rings w/straps and reinforce the mounting area, this has prevented any problems.

This is what I did, can use chain, straps, rope, pull trailers, boom pole.etc. etc.

I have the same reciever except it is to the side of the bucket. I use it for all of those also and even have a short boom. I reinforced with some webbing under inside the bucket to keep it from curling over.

Synthetic Slings are very safe when used properly and withing the safe weight limit of the sling. I have lifted many thousands of loads vertically with helicopters using Synthetic Slings without ever experiencing a sling failure. I use Synthetic Slings as a means to lift equipment and machinery with my FEL or Backhoe on a regular basis.

A Synthetic Sling is a very safe way of lifting heavy loads as long as the Slings are inspected for cuts or other damage prior to use. To this day I use a piece of fire hose cut to size to protect the Synthetic Sling from being cut. I also use fire hose to protect my tractor or other items from being damaged by the chain when tied down on my trailers.

I would not use a strap as a means to determine the lift capabilities of my FEL.
