I知 purchasing Woods 7500 backhoe with subframes and the only option to load it and offload it on and off the trailer will be to use the front loader. The tractor has the lift power but wanted to see if anyone have done such project and if you have any recommendations for me - loading, offloading, securing, etc... I値l be renting heavy duty 14x6 trailer.
The backhoe is 3h away from me so I need to make sure it can all happen at one shot.

Thanks

They are hard to move because they have no real balance point.
As soon as you start lifting the boom will shift, usually a direction you don't want.
I have loaded one that I sold using tractor forks and it was tricky.
Make sure you have plenty of chains and straps to secure the boom to the main structure and to keep the outriggers retracted.
Extra blocks might come in handy, a com-a-long or two also.
When rigging I always take way more than necessary to be ready for anything.
I hope the price is right, I bought this one new/free shipping for $3400.

So you are taking your tractor on the trailer to get the hoe? What about mounting it on the tractor?

I wouldn't like the idea of using a bucket, even with hooks. It's just too unprecise. Also a bucket doesn't give you much depth to lift something fairly large. I use forks with holes in the end for hooks so the chains come straight down, and you can see what's happening. I mean, if that's all you have. I would use slings on the hoe, rather than chains.

@industrial toys - the seller has a tractor which were using to load and I’ll use my tractor back home to offload. I’ll bring some slings as well.
Thanks!

Stimw- I was looking at the same backhoe you have but decided to go with the subframe option - $4k and really good condition.

I really like to use shackles too. They can't come undone like a grab hook.

If you have to get off your tractor forty times to check things, do it. Don't be in a hurry or ever assume anything. Be safe.

As far as tying the backhoe to the trailer I was thinking about these straps from Lowe’s - SmartStraps 2-in x 20-ft Tow Strap Tie Down (5666-lbs Work Capacity). What do you think?

You can never have enough slings. Sometimes a three foot sling is incredibly usefull and a long one, would be hard to use.

Are you sure your tractor will pick it up? It weighs about 1000 pound and the tractor is rated to lift about that much but its balanced way out in front. I wouldn’t count on it working. You need ratchet straps not tow straps. A couple 2” straps will be fine.

I moved mine a couple of times using the FEL with no issues. It may take a couple of times changing around the hook point to get it balanced. If the tractor is pushing the limits as for weight , if you can get the trailer to the hoe, just lift it with the tractor and back the trailer under it’s you don’t have to move the tractor with the hoe in the air. Also take a couple of ropes to tie onto the hoe unit to allow two people to use as guide ropes so no one is near it just incase something was to come loose while lifting.

Take several pieces of 2x4 and 4x4 to use as cribbing when you set it on the trailer. 2-4 2” ratchet tie downs would work good.
