It is the way I would love to do it, but this poses so many issues of weakening the ROPS. My opinion is never drill anything into your ROPS, only clamp.

Hello...I would love to see how you have modified your ROPS with spotlights or whatnot and maybe some good links for how to do it right.

SO please, let's see some pictures!
Do some searches .
There are threads and post all over the board on this subject.

Thank you very much, I understand and appreciate your input.

I also understand that with over 900 hits on this thread that folks like to see pictures of stuff like this. (myself included) Having a lot of examples of modified ROPS all in one place both for our pleasure and the benefit of all those that search this subject in the future can't be a bad thing....can it?

If it was, sorry, I will read more and post less in the future.

Well having a background in metal work (I used to be an Aviation Tech. working on airframe repairs) I can assure you that you will not "weaken" the ROPS by adding a few holes into it! I've done all kinds of testing on metals including destructive type testing and any weakening is minimal unless you go nuts and start boring 2" holes in the thing. If your afraid of holes then good lord don't look at ribs in an airplane! You'd be amazed at how little metal keeps you in the air! ! :D

As I stated in a previous post if you have any worries over it, don't do it. You should be comfortable with what you believe you can do, but four 1/8 inch holes in a ROPS won't hurt it. All the stickers you see on the thing are probably from company lawsuits because people have cut the things in half then did a half-$%^ repair job that failed.

Now welding in my book would be a no-no, unless you beefed up the weld with an extra steel plate or something. The heat from this could cause some structural weakness especially for a do it yourself type of guy. A pro welder could do the job without compromising the strenght though. It all depends on what you want to do and how comfortable you are doing it.

Cheers

This is logical but Kubota doesn't seem to understand that when time comes to repair your tractor under warranty at a dealer. I made some brackets just for that. My dealer said to me once, he would feel a bit uncomfortable to work on my tractor with the rops drilled. He doesn't have a problem with that, but if a Kubota representative walks in the shop and sees a technician working on a tractor with a modified ROPS he could have some problems. I cannot blame him.
