I put one my snowblowers delfector, it was a but slow but it worked great for many years I installed it in 2011.
I is a 35 pound 4" stroke, 12 volt actuator, static force of 70 pounds, speed of 2" per second.
Even though it was not a large it never got pushed up from the snow. I mostly ran the defector 1/2 way open or lower.

I have hydraulic chute rotation, but would like to be able to adjust the deflector on the fly, too. Would a linear actuator work reliably as a chute deflector adjustment mechanism?

Firgelli Automation has a kit with all you need. They are very helpful if you have any questions. About $160 for the kit.

I used a small linear actuator on my blower last year. It worked fine. I just don't don't adjust it that often when I'm clearing the driveway - long runs top to bottom. It is very useful maneuvering around the top of the driveway and street.

I used an 'ebay motor' to automate the chute. Both are controlled by a joystick. Fun project.
btw the linear actuator I used was about $36 on Amazon.
