Anyone ever tried to hook up a little beaver hydraulic PHD to a tractor? I've checked their website and they say that you can hook them up to a pump, so was thinking of trying to connect it to my 2305. Reading about rear remotes since I will more than likely be using this by myself at times, but still looking and hoping to get some ideas from you guys!

What is the GPM specs on that PHD? Can you post a link to the one you are looking at?

You have precious little flow operate a hydraulic PHD...

Yes, the GPM is a concern I had also. The little beaver HYD PS11 (Little Beaver - Earth Drills, Earth Augers, Post Hole Diggers, Trenchers Kwik-Trench, Quick Trench, Earth Saws, Hydraulic Augers Littlebeaver Livingston Texas) list that it has a maximum flow of 6gpm, while the 2305 (Product Specification for 2305 4WD Compact Tractor (24hp))
list it's gpm as 5.2 . I'm not sure how the rated output compares to the maximum flow, but I think it might work if I can get a remote control to work with it.

OK, First step first...
That spec of 5.2GPM is the TOTAL pump output, as your 2305 has only 1 pump. Now read the specs a little more carefully:

Pump Rated Output, gpm (L/min.) 5.2 (19.7)

Steering 2.3 (8.9)

Implement 2.9 (10.8)

And you will see that 2.3GPM goes directly to the steering (through a priority valve) leaving only 2.9GPM for implements.

While I think this PHD will work, or even other styles that mount to your bucket, It may be painfully slow. Is there a reason you do not want a PTO driven PHD?

Kennyd; Thanks for pointing out the implement gpm, I never noticed that before. I've been researching PHD's for a while now and while I'd rather pay the lower price for a pto phd, I'm worried that I may need a hydraulic PHD due to my soil type. It's very hard clay and very rocky, and the thought of reversing an auger with a pipe wrench every time I hit a rock is not very appealing. I don't have a FEL (yet) so was looking at other options for a hydraulic phd.

I don't think my soil is solid rock, and I know that all the farms around me have miles and miles of fencing up, so maybe I'm just worrying too much! I thought about renting, but I have 600' of fence to put up in the next few months and I would like to fence in an additional 8 acres piece by piece.

From all the research I've done on this forum, I believe the auger itself is the key, and I just have to find the right auger for my soil type without going bankrupt!!

thanks again Kennyd for the info!!

Have you considered using one with a PTO driven pump?

While that would work fine, it would add about $800.00 to the overall cost of the project...

I've only read a little bit about the pto driven pump, but I'd be willing to pay the 800 for the pump, if it would allow me to run the little beaver hydraulic auger. I've seen the head unit on different sites (used) for 600 and up. I may break down and call the company and see what they say.

How are your fabricating/welding skills?
To go the PTO pump route you will have to make a carrier, and plumb a reservoir, cooler, filter, valve, and the pump

ok Kennyd, I give, what auger is good for hard clay with misc soil and will work for a 18hp pto?

can you guess that I can't weld??
