- John Deere 3320
I wanted some company while riding my JD3320. So, I made a spot your my little buddy. Does anyone else have a space for a passenger on their tractors?
A seat on the fender I think would be more dangerous as it is outside of the ROPS protective area.
It's just me, but I would NEVER have my dog or child anywhere on or near the tractor when it is under operation. Please, DON'T ask me how I know.
Best seat for the kids is about 20 yards away from the tractor.
Seriously, its not just having a safe seat on the tractor you should think about. Its when they unexpectedly want to get on or off thats the problem. Unless you've got eyes in the back of your head I'd suggest that having kids hanging anywhere around a tractor is not a good idea.
My opinion is just the opposite and this is exactly why I recently bought he new Kubota for my wife. This is so she can feed our cows with a 3 year old and a baby in tow when it is -30 and I am away for work. My open cab JD just wasn't safe enough for this.
My boy has been around equipment his whole life. He has driven my Mack tandem gravel truck since he was 1. I would take him and he truck out into the middle of our field and let him steer it all over in low gear. He has run combines, sprayers, swathers (steered) and he is only 3. He has also got a few hours in a JD200CLC excavator and a D6 cat. It is all about exposing them to the right stuff in a safe manner - not just TV and video games because they cant get hurt... My dad did the same sort of stuff for me. I remember riding in the bucket of crawler loaders, clearing snow in the old grader, riding on his bulldozers with him as a kid. Apparently when I was 18 months old, I could climb up into the seat on his old Terex 8240 all by myself.
I remember my dad riding me around on the mower in his lap. And yes he was mowing. He started doing that when I was 5 years old up until I was around 10.Glad you are not going to let them ride on your lap. I see a lot of people doing that on riding lawn mowers. On their lap or knee, an accident waiting to happen.

I agree that the actions are dangerous. A ONE Year old isn't capable of driving the beforementioned machines. Most children don't even have all their Baby Teeth yet. I have two questions. Does the Child chew Tobacco yet, and is the Child engaged to get married anytime soon? Hopefully The FATHER has provided EAR Protection for the Child while on these Machines. If not, the Child's hearing will be, most certainly, damaged. MACHO, MACHO Parent.
Your Children are Your Children, but please provide Ear Protection. You are right, most kids are not capable of doing what . Obviously we have different ideals about raising children. I bought my 1/4 and built my farm so I could raise my family in a rural setting. I guess I am giving my kids life experience, that will benefit them in later life like my childhood did or me.
