The fuel filter is super duper cheap. I wouldn't waste a second cleaning it unless you were stranded without a replacement.

My fuel filter get changed once a year whether we put 10 or 100 hundred hours on it.
We do it right before the weather get real cold.

I personally never heard of cleaning a fuel filter. As cheap as they are, just change it. Now the air filter............. well lets just say Kioti is proud of that filter.

That may not be a great idea. A lot of long time diesel users will tell you that a 50% used filter is more effective than a brand new one. The material that gets filtered out makes the filter finer, obviously at some point it becomes too fine to let fuel past. This theory does not hold true for water in a fuel filter. MikeD74T

But the theory doees hold true for air filters, and even filtration of drinking water. I don't know that I would let this be a reason to extend fuel filter changes since a brand new fuel filter should be designed to filter well enough without the aid of partial cloggage shrinking the holes.

Higher flow equals bigger holes for less filtration which is the biggest reason why I don't use a K&N air filter. Then there's the oil slinging down the intake but I am rambling now.

OK, thanks for all the help guys. I'm gonna change the fuel filter just before winter, but for now i'll start a new thread on exactly HOW!! Please see new post if you can help. The manual stinks and I think the diagram it uses is wrong too.I'm not sure on air entering the system, purging it out etc. Next, I will change the air filter just cause I'll blow out the old one and use it as a spare. Lastly,I think i'm OK with the rest of the 50 hr. service but if you got time please check if I have a post out there on Sat. Highbeam, why not K& N? When I saw the price of the CONVENTIONAL replacment, I thought the K&N would be a cheaper way to go. I havn't had any problems with them for other vehicles I've owned, have any of you? Thanks again Tom

K&N air filters used for automotive engines have a love hate following. Even cummins recommends against their use since they let dirt through and into the turbo. I am a hater of the oiled gauze filter as well. They sling oil onto my mass air flow sensors and then the dirt that they allow to pass sticks to that oil making a tarry mess. Not to mention what happens to the dirty air passing into the engine.

I've got a big K&N for a 98 chevy on the shelf if you want it.

Paper filters are much better at filtering.

Fiddleback, you are right about the manual, it leaves a lot to be desired. I don't understand why they don't hire someone with a grasp of the English language to write these things. I suppose it all makes sense to them.;)
