I would layer some Manure then the liver more manure and top it off with some hay. Fill pot with water and boil till tender. Throw the liver away and eat the manure and hay.

Best recipe yet!!
The manure & hay can't taste any worse than the liver. Ugh. My mother used to cook it (liver, not manure) when we were kids. Hated it then, hate it now.

Man-O-man, I love good liver & onions. Don't have it often - too high in cholesterol & uric acid(gout).

Walking Horse & Oaktree - don't suppose you like tongue or rocky mountain oysters either. Mighty fine fare, mighty fine.

I asked Sharn Jean how she made her liver and onions; here's what I think she said:

Make sure your liver is sliced thin; soak in milk, in the frige, for at least a couple hours or more.

Roll in flour and brown in the skillet. Drain the grease; add your onions and some water and simmer until done.

Remove from skillet; add flour & water thickening and stir to make gravy. Add liver and onions back to skillet, simmer in the gravy. Serve.

Thanks for posting, that's how I remember mom doing it, all in a great big iron skillet. Big old pan of bisquits and that's all you needed for a meal. Of course it was all made with lard.

I was going to suggest cutting it into 1 inch chunks and feeding it to the dogs, but I don't believe in animal cruelty.
The only time I voluntarily ate liver was one time I was invited to my aunt and uncle's house while my parents were out of the country.
It was only out of politeness, I only ate one piece, and politely refused seconds.

Don't know about the other folks, but I love the mountain oysters (calf fries). NEVER go through Amarillo without stopping at Big Tex for a basket full. Tongue, on the other hand, is another story. Would substitute fried okra any day of the week.

I guess that's the only place that I've had the mountain oysters and they were very good. I liked that comment on their menu something to the effect that if you think this is seafood, you'd better order the shrimp.

It's been a lot of years since I've eaten beef tongue, but I sure liked it when I was kid. Of course, as with many things, it does have to be properly prepared.

No to both.
I did have (part of) a brain sandwich once. Was deep-fried and tasted kind of like a fillet-o-fish. Might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't known what it was ahead of time.

I think nearly every grocery store used to have calf brains, but not anymore since the mad cow scare. The only way I ever ate calf brains was in scrambled eggs and I used to be quite fond of that when I was a kid and we butchered our own beef. As far as I know, there was only one restaurant in Dallas that served scrambled eggs and calf brains, and I guess it was about 1971 the last time I ate there.
