I don't know how old you are but think about doing that when you hit about 50 or 60! !
I am 39yrs old now . We built our home in 2001 and this is the first time we have actually been snowed in. We have already discussed buying a small house down over the mountain in a few years and using the log home as a spring/summer and fallhouse.
The good news about all this snow is that I was able to talk the wife into buying a spanking new Kubota MX5100.
BTW- we have had 262" of snow this year according to the local radio. That is 21.8 FEET !!

What do you figure it costs per year to maintain that road if you don't mind me asking?

Well, If the snow isn't out of control like this year it isn't too bad. But even with this harsh winter I only have around $300 in diesel form clearing the road. It is graveled and VERY VERY well packed from the coal trucks that has been ran on the first 1.5 miles for the past 20 yrs. So, the cost in the summer is probably around $150 or so just to fill trouble spots with gravel.

Hang a 8' plow on the Dodge, that will handle most of your snows and it will be a lot faster, then push back with the tractor when needed.

Believe it or not I have 6ft plow on my Yamaha Rhino and it works great. But, when you get hammered with 40+ inches in one shot (and back to back in one week) I need something a bit more. One mile of my road it through the woods with trees on both sides. After a few storms there is no where to put the snow. It has to be blowed down through the woods.
besides, I don't want to tear the crap out of my baby.... Not to mention I drive my truck to work in the winter and rolling up the freeway 50 miles with a plow hanging off the front would have to hurt the mileage just a bit.

Pretty strange year for you guys, blower is the way to go this year for sure ! 50 miles would get old with the plow bouncing but at least you could push the crazies out of the way ! Did you go for the cab? really nice with a blower !

No, There is an Amish fella in my area that makes VERY nice cabs for about a quarter the price of a factory one. I haven't talked to him yet but I sure wil before next winter thats for sure...

Only way to go with a blower ! Kind of like trying to stay out of the smoke from a camp fire , no matter how you point the snow it seems to find it's way down the back of your neck !

No, but I've been driving 48/68 almost 30 yrs now and recognized the mining near you from the link you posted. Pulled it up on Google maps, I see your road name. Are you almost on top of the mountain?
