i have a john deere gator 6x4 in the snow it worthless unless there is a load in the dump box and when there is a load in the dump box I cannot steer it I was thinking of loading the tires to help weight it down a bit. was wondering if anyon has done this to there gator

I don't know if gator tires will hold enough ballast to make it worthwhile, but any ballast is good for traction. As you've found out, adding a load to the bed louses up the steering ability by making the front-end light.

I think in your case I'd shoot for chaining up the 4 rears for traction...

Maybe you could hang some barbell weights on the front bumper if you have a bumper. Keep your bed loading close to the cab and it should be in front of the back tires. That should distribute the weight to both the front and rear. Maybe some big ole agressive R1 type ATV tires would help too. I did see one gator with those on it and it looked like it would go in the mud, dont know about the snow as they dont seem to have much ground clearance.
