Frankly, the difference is a little more than being just a "stripped down" version. Stipped down version suggests that it is the same less some options but this is not the case. The 3203 can never be reasonably modified to become a 3x20 series tractor. The transmission and axle are different. Since tractors aren't really mounted on a frame, the transmission and axle are an "integral" part of the chassis. For $1650 (before discount off list) less, you are going to get a 2 spd vs 3spd tranny, lighter duty rear axle, less robust hydraulics, fixed vs foldable rops, engine rated to produce 2.5hp (2pto) more but does so using same displacement motor running at higher rpm and compression with less crankcase fluid so the duty rating of the 3120 might be more durable in long run, no mid pto cap, 2 vs 5 available remotes, deere rated to use 300 vs 300x/300cx loader, deere rated to use no backhoe vs 447 and 448, final drive is spur vs a helical gear, 6 lugs vs heavier duty 8-lug axle. Finally, while the physical size does look to be about the same, there certainly are other design differences as well and even little things like the lights, perhaps you don't care about the aesthetics but functionally, are brighter on the 3x20 series. Again, the point is that for the price difference, you ARE giving up SOMETHING.
But again, if your mind is made up, then it's made up. Nothing wrong with the 3203 for what it is. All I'm saying is that if you want the 300x loader and backhoe cap, then why not pay the difference, small in the overall scheme of things when all costs have been factored in, to have the tractor that was designed with those in mind? Just my humble opinion, for whatever that is worth.
