I bought a 2002Branson 4020 with the BL20 loader. After looking it over real close one of the loader pins is not the correct size. Two of the loader pins appear to be custom made but are the correct size. The remaining pins are original parts.

The parts manual shows Pin, part no: ALK 28-98-1160

Photo attached showing proper pins (and the round one is the incorrect pin).

I have a call into a dealer but I suspect if they can be bought they will be crazy expensive.

Can I use a grade 5 hitch pin or bolt of the correct diameter for a temporary fix until I can have one made?

Thanks.

I've made a pin to replace one I lost. Grade 5 bolt will work fine assuming you can find one the right size. It's no permanent solution because you can't grease it. The pins aren't very hard, and I just used regular steel for my pin. Grade 5 is probably harder than the factory pin.

Might not be as simple as just replacing it with the proper pin.

IF that undersized pin has been in there awhile, it has probably done some damage to the bore.....and it probably is no longer a nice round bore. You would need to address that issue as well.

The smooth shank of a grade 5 bolt will make a fine pin and you can just flat side the head to prevent the pin from turning in the clevis. Avoid drilling and grease grooving pins as it is an invitation to failure at the groove unless the loader is used only lightly. If you can introduce grease through the pin boss instead you will have a much more durable, and simple, pin.
