The loader on my 1240 has had an unusul habit every since I've owned it. When the lbucket is curled it will stop moving after about 2 seconds of travel, pause for about 3 seconds, then resume the curl. This happens in either the dump or curl back cycle regardless of RPM's. There have never been any signs of hesitation, chatter, low power or anything else suggesting a clue. The lift cylinders don't do it, just the bucket. After the pause, the bucket acts normal. Fresh fluid and filter too. It doesn't really hurt anything, just wondering if anybody else has had a similar problem and what might be the cause.

The dump cylinders are captivating. They do that when the weigh in the bucket pulls the bucket down faster than fluid is going into the backside of the cylinder. Air separates from the fluid and causes the slow down. There are loader valves that help prevent captivation from happening to a large degree. They are called regenerative valves. This type of valve lets some of the exhausted fluid go from the lower end of the cylinder to the topside where the captivation occurs. If you have a MF1266 loader it doesn’t have a regenerative valve. When Massey changed to the 1400 series they went to a regenerative valve.

Hey Thanks Jerry! That answers the question, and it makes sense too. I appreciate you knowledge on MF tractors. :)

I never really understood what the regenerative circuit did, till now. But, is the term captivation or cavitation?
