Loader Vs, Big Dirt Scoop?

Hey John, that 60" scoop actually will work, The guys say it is rated for about 500 pounds of material, so ..etc. it also can get a high lift kit that will raise it about 40 inches, so it can load something on a small truck. But at $1500 for the scoop and the high lift kit is too much, puts me too close to the loader category.

Actually John, the 60" scoop would probably work. What's the difference between a 60" scoop on a 3 ph that is rated to lift 930 lbs. and a 60" bucket on a loader that's rated to lift 880 lbs.?

First off… absolutely nothing… 60” is 60”
Second… scoop price is approaching loader {starts to become a no-brainer}
Third… placement & usage of implement
Fourth…buy the 30” scoop for $159. now and start using it versus $800 or $1500. and keep talking about it and never buying or doing anything…
Fifth… looking at this somewhat logically?… how much weight do you think you possibly want to carry/move with a 1600 lb. Tractor… whether it’s using a loader or scoop…?
Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth… Mostly I’m busting Nuru’s chops… but… instead of buying the Front blade attachment on day one as Nuru did… I would had opt’ed for the loader and a rear blade at the beginning for a few dollars more… {but then again, we wouldn’t be having this discussion and all this fun now… would we…?} /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

John, the only tractor accident I ever witnessed was my father using a 30" dirt scoop behind a Ferguson TO-20. He was digging a trench and got the scoop full. When he exited the end of the trench, the front of the tractor continued to lift. One rear wheel got traction while the other started spinning and really quickly the front end swung around 180º and he was going back the way he had just came from, but with two wheels in the trench and two on the shoulder. He jumped just as the tractor started to roll and landed on the bank in front of me as the tractor rolled over on top of him. I watched in horror as my dad was crushed under the tractor. I managed to shut the tractor off and, with some adrenalin help, rolled it off of him. Other neighbors had been watching and came immediately to help, but my father had several broken ribs, a broken arm, and a bruised heart. He spent six months in the hospital and recovery. The rest of his life, he had a metal plate holding a bone in his right arm together.
Your comments are so true it makes me shudder just remembering that tractor swinging around with the front wheels in the air. A 30" scoop is plenty big for a 1,600# tractor. If you are lucky and careful, you may not kill yourself with it. ...my two cents.

I’m so very sorry to hear about your Father’s accident… It had to be absolutely horrifying to stand by helplessly and watch…
There are so many times when you “think” you are doing all the right things and even going by the “book” and out of the blue- an accident happens so quickly… in a blink of an eye… sometimes by the grace of God you walk away intact… but the majority of the time with farm equipment you don’t…
