Why would the original poster want to rent the trailer for one way drop off ? He could rent the trailer in his hometown - - tow empty trailer 100 miles to pick up tractor - - bring tractor home and then return rental trailer. This could all be done with 1 day rental for 200 mile round trip.

Doubt they would have coverage for what they haul for hire. Have new implements being shipped about 1200 miles at this time and had bought full coverage for $9000 load for $55 from freightguard.com No idea if they would cover load on noncommercial shipper but was recommend to be my a shipping company.

In my case, it would not make any sense for me to rent a trailer, tow it 450 miles, and decide when I saw the tractor that I did not want to buy it.
Then I would tow the empty trailer 450 miles back, and pay $70 per day for a 3 day ($210) rental?

Would United allow renting of an equipment trailer, to be dropped at a different United location hundreds of miles away?
I am thinking NOT !!

If they would allow it, most likely there would be an extra charge just like rental car companies tack on. We found that arrangement to be quite expensive and never went that route.

Try Uship.com. Sometimes you catch them with room on a trailer, or in between loads, or coming back, etc. No one wants to travel empty in any direction. I've shipped a couple cars, a 750 Bike, etc usually at half the going rate. YMMV.

If you go on their site and pick Heavy Equipment, you can select tractor Brand and model.

Two guys in Michigan bought our sailboat sight unseen and got a deal from uShip to haul it back. 900 miles. Lady showed up in a diesel F250. She was from Michigan so it was a haul back. It was less than it would have cost either of us.

The site might advertise differently for different folks / and browser history. I see an auction company, snow plow, suspension seat and 3pt hitch stabilizer bars right now.

When I bought my M4700 from the Town of Leesburg, Va at Public Surplus auction back in 2013 I called around and finally found J L R Trailer Rentals, 11524 Balls Ford Rd, Manassas, VA 20109. They had a flatbed that fit my M4700. I think it was about $80 for a 1 day rental, but they may have had that typical "weekend for 1 day charge" policy.

The management was VERY helpful.

OP - what is the tractor and did the weight include EVERYTHING? FEL, bucket, filled tires etc.
