We have someone from Warm Springs wanting to find some springs and someone from Berkley Springs advising him. Cool.

Reasoning on what /pine has said, your pond is bound to be below the springs that once fed it. I wonder if they re-emerged in the pond.

Warm Springs? Oxymoron. The only "warm" springs around here are feeding FDR's swimming pool, which BTW, is still open and active. Everyone else has ice COLD water.

But I think your are right about some of the spring water feeding the pond; just not a large amount. The pond has never gone dry in over 60 years, but it is now lower than it has ever been in the past.

This area is in the foothills of the Pine Mountain range, elevation of about 1000 feet. Surrounding our place are steep hills and valleys, and solid thick forest land, which is impossible for a tractor to go through.

Thanks for that bit of information. I've seen footage of FDR in the pool many times but never been to Warm Springs.

Try this. NETRonline: Historic Aerials . Pictures are cool, go way back, and you can often see what things looked like in the past in good detail.

Thanks for the link, but I couldn't get past their splash page. Their sample appeared to be pretty much like Google Earth Pro, but perhaps with more clear pictures. There's a cost, of course, to access specific areas of interest.

Go back to the link and click on the Viewer tab. You can use the website without paying. I have used it to look at the area I live in now, as well as a couple of other places I used to live, to see what they looked like in the 50's, 60',s and 70's.

It is a very cool website. Google Earth sometimes has old images you can see as well. Look for a slider in Google Earth to move back the date. Also look at topographical maps. They might have the spring located or at least show where the spring might be located due to contours and such. The Historic Arial site has topo maps in some areas.

Later,
Dan

Going to viewer did exactly as you said. That works. But I didn't see anything indicating springs...

/pine may have hit the head on the hammer (?)... Place next door has a huge waterflow from a spring. I mean a gushing water flow! I wonder if he'd mind very much if I just go over and cap his spring off? Seriously, that may be the problem. Thanks /pine!.

1/2 or 2/3 of the way down the side of a hill. Any tile drains on or around the property ?

Maybe 100 yards downhill. But I learned today that the neighbors spring has been flowing like that for many years, not just a recent thing.
No tile drains around.
