As those who have a PT brush hog know, it is designed to swivel front to back ( as well as side to side ) in order to to follow ground contour while mowing. I have found it to be a disadvantage, however, that when you lifted it off the ground, it's balanced such, that it tips forward, making it harder to work on underside and also unsafe to raise into brush as has been discussed here before.

Well, I was pondering this while getting set to change blades this mourning and found a neat fix that may even be by design but PT don't tell you about. Though it's hard to believe they would hold back any information,LOL.

On either side where the front to back pivit bolts are located, an ear extends down and moves between two bolts that act to limit the amount of pivit. In the center of that ear(just my term for it) there's a hole that has no apparent reason for being there. However, by removing the rear limiting bolts and swinging the ears back, I found that the holes matched up perfectly and the unit could be bolted up in that fixed position. The result is that when you lift the arm and operate curl all the way back the mower deck comes to near vertical. You can lower the arms to set the deck on it's rear end to safely work on the underside. I think this is going to be good for brush cutting also as you can curl the deck up leaving the rear near to the ground and the deck between the operator and the action. Than you can curl the dect forward into the brush. I'll report how that works after I try it. Before that I have to get longer bolts also.

The first pic is of where you bolt it up.

Nice hydraulic machete!!

If you take the wheels off, it will look like it was designed to be one!!

It should be perfectly safe for the driver!!

You remind me of the old story of the guy who attempted to prune the tops of his bushes with his rotary lawnmower!! Bad news for him: he lost control, it fell on him, and chewed him up pretty bad!! Good news for him: some slick lawyer (like Edwards) helped him sue the lawnmower manufacturer for millions because they didn't have a sticker on the machine warning against bush pruning!! Bad news for us: everything we buy is higher priced and dripping with stupid stickers, and slick lawyers use their millions to run for office!!

It's a wonderful story that has been around for years, but when last I looked there was no evidence it ever happened. It was dreamed up as a worst-case example for those arguing for tort reform, and later used as a "true story" example in legislative debates. Supporters of tort reform were challenged a while back to cite the case - to provide the Court and docket references. They couldn't find it.
A bit like the JATO bottle on the Chevrolet. It's still a great story, even if it never happened. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

True!! Sometimes we can find a lot of truth in a story that isn't true!! Jesus taught many truths with parables, which though loaded with truth were not, I dare say, true!!!!

Notice that I referred to this tale as an "old story". A story can be defined as "a piece of fiction that narrates a chain of related events"!! Therefore, by definition, this story may not be true in it's specifics, but it is the moral of the story that counts!!

"" Bad news for us: everything we buy is higher priced and dripping with stupid stickers, and slick lawyers use their millions to run for office!! ""

/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Sadly, I find nothing but truth in this part of the story!!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

PS: I believed that this story was true before I believed that it was not!! But, having not read the latest poles, I can't say, at this moment, wether I believe it, or not!! But I assure you that I will never change my opinion of it, unless I do!!

PT design this feature on all brush cutters and mowers to allow them to be tilted enough to be installed on the trailor package.
