I would use Iplay..'s design with flanges fixed to the top and bottom ends of the vertical pivoting log. Short hinge pins mounted to a stout stationary post nearby and parallel to the pivoting post would mate with the flanges forming a big hinge. Kids could swing on it all day and no damage. Surviving a chain saw is another matter though.
