I have a winch but built this several years ago...

PS: saw the Wallenstein plate at the Moncton farm show a few weeks ago... it retailed for around $850.

Have you seen a cross draw bar with tractor hook(s) being used ? It is not exactly what you are looking for and it is not nearly as nice as Sean's or the Wallenstien units but they are better than using your fixed draw bar. You can use more than one hook with a couple chokers on each. And you can pick all the logs up with your 3ph to make skidding easier. It is also relatively inexpensive. The draw bar and tractor hooks are available at Tractor Supply. Just thought I would throw this out there.

gg

I made one like that, but also welded 4 chain hooks on it as well. It worked quite well for me the first year I did serious logging for the out door wood stove. Then I got the Farmi 601.

I will try to take a picture of it and post it later today....edit: pickies below.. I doubt I had $100 in material in it, (at retail). The key it to get all your log butt ends lined up evenly, drop the lower links, cinch the chains somew3hat snug and raise the TPH just enough to get the buts off the ground.........

First rule of thumb when skidding logs with a tractor: EASY, CHEETA!

Its easy to build one like the one at Northern for a lot less money.
You can also move trailers with it too.

You don't skid from the top winch point normally, you hook in the slotted bar down low.

Okay, someone please enlighten this dimwitted Swede. If dragging a log from above the axle can lead to flip-overs, how is it that the logging winches are safer? they are hanging the logs from way above the draw bar and axle, so what gives? I'm obviously missing part of the equation.
