I've got a Timber Wolf P1 log splitter and am considering fabrication of a log lift to ease the burden of handling large rounds. (I have been using tongs on the loader, but a lift seems so much better)

The present set up is the typical "log splitter valve" with detent.

What would be the the simplest, cleanest, cheapest ;-) valve to add to supply the aux circuit needed for a lift cylinder?

A quick consideration suggest a single spool valve with power beyond.

Suggestions?

TIA

I know this isn't the right way to do it, but I just hooked the 2 log splitter valves together. On the log splitter I never had to use both valves at the same time and the back pressure is at the min. It has been that way for right at 35 years.

Help me out here..

One pressure supply line, tee'd to two common splitter valves ? (open center with detent)

Then, the two return lines are joined to return to tank?

Sounds simple...if that's the way it works...

No you can't tee the pressure line. Mine is the pressure goes into the in port on the splitter valve and the out port goes to the in port of the lift valve and then the out port goes to tank. I do have a larger tank hose then the 3/4" out port on the valve. I took it up to 1" or 1 1/4" can't remember for sure.

You need either an equal divider valve or a selector valve .

3/8" NPT 20 GPM PRINCE SELECTOR VALVE

I just happen to have one of those very selector valves "in stock" . Bought it over 15 years ago for a project that never moved forward. A useful solution!

"Tanks"

I may find operating double controls time consuming?....hmmmm.... first the selector, then the dcv, then the selector back to the splitter ram again... (lather rinse, repeat....)

Thanks for the clarification! Seems workable.

If you use 2 valves in series, I would feed the log lift first then the splitting valve.

If you do this be sure you first valve either has power beyond capability or can be hooked in series. Most new valves cannot but Brand is one mfg that can. Also remember that in series without a power beyond if you use both valves at the same time the first relief has nowhere to go so the pressure will be the combination of both reliefs or resistance of both functions. I believe the LS log splitter valves should go to tank.

Quote from Brand manufacturer: The LS tank port must be plumbed directly back to tank.

Simple is not always simple.

Some people have connected valves together with PB, and have had no trouble, but the potential trouble is always there.

Most manufacturer say no more than 500 psi on the back pressure on the tank port.

Sorry I should have been more specific. Brand PN#DCVA200 will work with backpressure but like I stated most valves either will [blow the seals out of the return core] or crack the housing. I had to find a valve to run a rototiller and still supply oil to the ground drive motor on a older Case tractor and that was one of only a couple that would do that. I don't know of any log splitter valves that will allow back pressure like you stated. CJ

You are right.

Actually the back pressure from Prince log splitter valves is 150 psi, and from Energy log splitter valves is 200 psi.

Then it would be safe to say, back pressure from 150 to 500 psi with some variance on some valves.

JJ do you have any experience with the DV20 and DV35 Parker valves? We see a lot of them here with the backing plates bent out and the seals hanging out of the spools! Happens every time when the return line comes unhooked. CJ

Can you explain why the pressure line cannot be tee'd?
I was going to do this on something.

In an open center hyd system, fluid flow will take the path of least resistance.

You try and use one valve, and the fluid will flow through the other valve.

You can tee the pressure lines in a closed center hyd system.
