Log splitters

You are over-thinking, leading to over-reaching.

For two cords per year buy a 110 volt or 220 volt electric log splitter.

Split in your driveway, enjoying a cold beverage.

Electric log splitters are the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) solution.

I agree. I have had both the behind the tractor type and the electric type. I soon sold the behind the tractor log splitter. Keep it simple.

The other problem I see with that monster split ( aside from it being slow and probably too heavy for your tractor to lift) is it looks under built for its strength. I'd probably surprised if it doesn't break something.

Our 20 ton is 30+ years old and the last 6 years have been primarily locust. Oak is like butter.

My 22 ton is showing no issues after 5 years of hard work. I'd buy the same unit again in a heartbeat. I typically believe that bigger is better, but I'm completely happy with my little 22 ton unit.

Yep... so far no complaints here with my 22

What brand is yours as mine is no longer made.

Well... mine is a 27 ton, not 22 and it is an '04 Troy-Built.
Has still split everything I managed to load into/onto it.

My 22 ton TSC splitter does everything I can feed thru it. 5yrs going strong. If I decided to replace it in a moment of insanity, I'd get the same size. No need for a bigger one imho.

I think it really depends on the wood you split I think. My 35 ton speedco splitter seems to really struggle on some of the rounds I have.

Maybe it is the locus that splits harder than the elm?

I only have access to Oak and Pine and normally just split the oak... some of the rounds 30+ in diameter...
