Egon,

You can send it over my way. The whole family has the flu now. We'll take good care of it - even though it is orange - ahem - green!!!! :) :) :)

Egon,

I know whats wrong with your tractor.

Its heard you talking about the hitch you had on the orange one, and its wanting you to build it one.:D

teach,

When ever you have the time to forward the measurements that will be most welcomed.

So, jd4300, I guess the new tractor is green with envy over the old one and its many attributes.

Lloyd. will you be building it yourself? Where will you get the materials?

I'm in need of one also but just the frame, no winch. The Kubota took mine when it left.:D

Yea that's the only thing wrong with it, and he said the Kubota just took it and left.:D

Was you going to make yours like teach did his.

Yes,

Going to copy it. I may add a few extra hooks and things.

I have a small 3000lb pulling winch I may mount to a base that could slip into
the center receiver hitch. Also I may put a receiver hitch on the top - centered; I bought a used vice which will come in handy when I am out in the field and the vice could be configured to go into the receiver as well.

I have a lot of needs/ideas for this thing. So I will work slowly at it to try and work in all the 'needs' in the design process.

My list is as follows:

Log puller and place to carry chain
Receiver hitch for 2" ball and winch
Receivers for set of forks on bottom
Receivers for carry all
Receiver for vice
Receivers for pallet forks
Receiver for small wedge fingers/grubber for removing alders

A lot of this will duplicate and some will have common uses.

So you have some serious building to do.

The way i see i the more hooks the better, i need to build one to pull logs out of an old gas line road, can't get a trailer up in the place.

I have a fireplace, but i am going to add a big wood stove that goes outside and connects to the duct work.

They have them at TSC and burn a long time on one load.

Pics, tried posting them the first time, it didn't work. Let's try again. There are four hooks across the top of the hitch, which is two pieces of 2" angle welded together to make a piece of 2" tubing. The big middle hook that is upside down is to hold the pully block for the winch, which will mount down low, in the back of the receiver hitch. Depending on the size of the trees, I probably can't drag more than two or three trees, but I can drag some decent size trees out, the drag is about 1/4 mile. Some of the oaks are just too big to lift and drag, and my buddy drags them out with his 68 horse Bota with an actual logging winch. My setup however, costed me less than $200, his cost a couple thousand (I do realize we are not comparing apples to apples). Now we are looking for another Bota project to weld up! Any ideas?

I don't get the big middle upside down hook to hold the pulley block? How is the pulley going to be hooked? To the Eye of the hook?

Block pulley, yes, it hooks in the ring of the upside down hook located in the middle of the top section. It turns that the hook, being so large and upside down, works out well for a handle when moving the hitch around. I am probably not going to bother using the winch, after testing the hitch, it just doesn't seem necessary/worth messing with. Plus, having an electric winch in the woods is not best case. The wires want to get hung up on brush and its my opinion that if something is going to be used on a tractor in the woods, it needs to be bomb-proof. Probably one of the reasons for Farmi-type designs with either pto or hydraulic winches.

teach,
I noticed you made a box tubing for your top horizontal piece on your 3pt hitch.

I need to gain about 6' of angle to complete other design objectives. I have extra 2' square 3/16 wall tubing I can use for top horizontal and bottom horizontal pieces. Do you think this will work? My angle iron is 1/4".

I measured and determined my width would be about 29' for the pins on my 3pt arms.
And checked references for cat 1 hitches to determine distance betwenn arms and top link to be about 26". Does this sound correct to you?

Many thanks.
