Logging self release snatch block

I just bought an Igland self release snatch block for winching logs. I have been using a block for years but it is not self release. This will save running back every time. At 69 every step counts!
Can anyone tell me what the pointy end opposite the pulley is there for?

It is the lug that a strap end hooks over.......push the loop of a rope or strap through the hole and put it over that pointy lug. See photo in link below.

You will like using that block I am sure. Well worth it if you spend a lot of time in the woods with your winch. :thumbsup: Have fun and work safe.

By the way does the bearing need servicing / greasing from time to time or is it sealed? The outer cap held in place by a snap ring could let water in.

The one I have has a sealed bearing.Sit out doors and has not given any trouble after several years. I have a couple regular snatch blocks with open bearings but they also have grease zerks.
