Winches Logging winch on B7100

I'll disagree at least a bit, Bob. The Old Farmi winch I have will jerk the tractor (L3130) around like nothing ... if allowed to. Yes you can throttle them pretty well with the rope, and I do that myself, but there is a point that you may be missing after having so much time with these winches:

Man that thing needs some paint...

My neighbor has the exact same winch he uses on his JD-790. That thing is great and yes it will jerk the tractor around pretty easy. If you think yours needs paint you should see my neighbor's winch. Yours is a pretty piece belonging in a museum compared to that.

Hey Jim,
I like the idea of the chain link fence on the ROPS, I was thinking of something like that also. Share a picture if you get that set up, I'd like to see it.

Okay, it only took a half a year to get around to it, but better late than, well, even later.

Irene blew through and dropped half a big, old silver maple over my driveway, power lines and cable & phone lines. Sure am glad I had the tractor, a good chainsaw & welder generator.

While helping my neighbor to pull down a barber chaired oak with rope & snatch block I got antsy about how hard I was pulling and being directly above the rope should it snap & recoil. So I found the chain link fence and got a bag of 14" zip ties at Loew's. Here's what I came up with:

I'll get a chance to try it out this weekend.

Nice job! I like the way you are still able to fold down the ROPS.

Thanks! Foldable ROPS was a design requirement so I can get her back in the garage where she sleeps.

I have a very old Fransgard behind my b7100. The major innovation in this case is that someone welded two car hubs to the frame. In use it looks like a 6wheeler. It attaches to the 3pth but rolls on the ground on its own wheels like a trailer. So the weight on the 3pt is a non issue. I put my rear wheel against a handy stump, run the cable out, and winch away. It works great.
Im not logging, but cutting firewood, so not usually taking hitches of logs down the mountain. But again, the weight is all on the winch tires and not the tractor.
