It is the tooth's linear velocity that is important. As you increase the diameter of the saw, you increase the tip speed. But the blade can stall easier because of leverage? But this allows a slower rpm which lets you go to a higher torque motor. It might be worth looking up the calculations to see where the sweet spot is.

Man Ken, that is WAY too much science for a guy like me. How about this. I look at other peoples designs and steal it? ;-)

I have been looking at 2 hydrualic driven machines. Both have some sort of gear box but I can't tell the actual implications (if they are gear up, gear down or just 90 angle adjusters).

The other thing I could do is just take my wheel motor I got for my Post Hole digger and slap a disk on it. Maybe that would work? Ton of torque going at 160 RPM.

This motor has more torque, but is also more expensive.

Thanks for the advice. I am a huge mac addict and the wife got me one for my birthday, but I am pulling 16's at work and have not had the time to do much more than email....

I really like the IPAD, but the learning curve is more than I thought. Also it does have some limitations some of which are addressed in the IOS5 upgrade. I took a one hour class at the Apple store and that helped. About 90% of my computing it done on the Ipad. Not right now though. I am in Germany and they do not have wifi at this house. It is a struggle to use windows here. All of the right mouse click stuff is in German. I am heading to a new location tomorrow and should have it there.
