Long hair care for busy farmers

About 60 years ago Dad was in Atlanta for a Sears convention. He needed a haircut and went to an ethnic barber shop. The barber did a good job and used a lit candle.
I'd never heard of it before or since.

My hair was frizzy up until I had less hair at about 55. It was always hard for anyone to cut. But now with less of it and all the sides are white, top is dark. My wife calls it skunk hair when she shaves it off and it does look black and white.
My wife clipped part of my left ear once, she felt pretty bad about it. I think the scar is there just for her to rememeber it happened:unsure:, didn't lose any thing but blood.
I did say ouch real loud though!

When I was in school, it was against regulations for boys to have facial hair including sideburns, bangs, hair over the top of the ears or over the shirt collar. It was also the haircut needed to get a good job. Few employers wanted people with the hippie look.

That all changed after 1971 with the Tinker decision.

No, Tinker was about freedom of speech in schools (specifically, non-disruptive political speech). Dress codes can and are still enforced, I including some regarding grooming. Individual schools/districts may have loosened their rules, but not because of Tinker.

One of my uncles was a barber in Cincinnati. When I was maybe 5-6 years old we were visiting and he offered to cut my hair. My mom said "Sure." About 5 seconds into it he clipped my ear and it bled like a stuck pig. He put something on it to stop the bleeding, and it stung worse than the clip! I was not a happy little guy that day.🙃

I grew a calcium deposit in one of my toes; it basically formed a rock that pushed out through the skin.

It was pretty insane. I had to have it all surgically removed, after trying to remove parts of it, only to find more, and more. I've got some pictures if you're curious.

🤣🤣

Army barber partially removed a mole on my head; that bled, a lot.
