Where did you get your metal halide lights? It's one option I'm considering for my 40'x60'.

I got mine from a local school that was upgrading the lighting in the gym. As I recall they where $8-10 each, which included the bulbs and two or three extra units. I bought as many as would fit on my 9' flat bed at the time, something like 24-25 of them. They where cheap enough. The draw back is that they are obsolete and once the bulbs die or the transformers go there is no way to get parts/replacements for them, but I couldn't pass up them at that price. I gave six of them to my father in law after getting them and it turned out he has three cases of the bulbs that he snagged from his work when they upgraded their lighting about five years ago. I didn't even know that till after buying the lights, funny how things work out sometimes. I have noticed that because these where meant for 25+ foot gym ceilings that in the garage with 12' ceilings they are more of a spot light then an area light, something to think about in your planning. Also, they are around 2' in height so they do reduce the head room quite a bit, where T5's are only 6 or 7 inches when flush mounted.

All just food for thought.

people are strange.

I'm building a trail around my property... so once I'd taken a couple weekdays off to get some yard work done. Here comes a couple with a dog on the leash walking down my driveway... I'm thinking; ok they're coming to see me. Nope, they wave and down my trail they go. Next day, I'm sitting in the house and see them going again. I was off like a shot. "can I help you?" "no, we're just going for a walk" "well this is my property and I don't want you walking through it" "we've been doing this for years" "well obviously I've purchaced this land and built on it..." They were like; how dare you tell us we can't tresspass on your property! Had they asked the day before I would have probably said sure, go ahead. These are retirement aged people that should know better and have some common curtisy. It just blows my mind.

Sorry for the hyjack. That barn looks amazing. I'm certainly not the only one green with envy! Thanks for taking the time to post!

No need to apologize. We are all here to tell our stories.

I must say seeing the barn nearly completed is nice. Knowing that it has been done by myself and a cousin is certainly a source of satisfaction. I think I have about 22 days into it, a little more then half I was alone. Having the tools, skills, access to equipment, and time to put in the build made it doable. The most important thing in this whole adventure is our extended family and all the support they give.

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for documenting your build... always something to look forward to.

Last week I was painting the upstairs of a rental and noticed a grey haired women in a nice car pulled into the neighbors driveway and get out with a big basket.

She went to the flower bed and birds of paradise and snipped away... filling the basket.

Later that day... I saw the neighbor come home from work shaking her head... just as I was leaving.

She couldn't believe her flowers were gone... told her what I saw and she said it was not the first time...

Some people have no qualms about helping themselves... bought my grandmother a very large cymbidium orchid in a large clay pot for her front porch.... it was there for about 3 months and walked away one night.

Same happened to a neighbor who has since chained his patio furniture with padlocks to keep it from walking.

I hate the idea of gated anything... I now can understand why.

Last week I was walking mom's dog on her land... I'm house sitting for her... a couple with several dogs in tow told me to keep back from 25' away because they might not be able to control their dogs and asked if I had not seen them... told them I had permission from the owner to be here and asked them if they did...

Well it has been a good weekend. We got in later in the afternoon friday so I was able to disc the food plots again before dinner. Saturday was a day to do things beside work on the barn. Spent the morning discing food plots one last time. Then I planted a clover mix, about 3 acres total, and ran over it with the cultipacker I picked up this spring.

My daughter and I wound up doing the grade work around the barn in the afternoon.

Today I burned a brush pile that has been growing since last fall.

Then I spent a few hours with my cousin finishing the upper west wall of the barn. Only a couple items left after that, upper east wall, fascia on the lower west wall, put the overhead door trims on the two remaining doors, and install weather stripping around the overhead doors. Once that's all done I can call for the final inspection.

YAY! We completed the building this weekend by getting the upper east wall sided and windows in, sorry no picture -looks the same as the upper west wall:). I mounted all the door "hardware" on the outside of the overhead doors, dressed it up nicely. Then my wife and I started spreading gravel on the inside to level the floor. I am planning on getting the final inspection done end of next week when I go back out there.

So, raise a glass lads and lasses! :drink::drink::drink:
