We have a bx2200 with bar tires, and the only damage you would see is on very soggy soil. I suspect that, even with the heavier 2200, there would be no damage with turf tires

Chucko the dealers in WNY wanted only a few hundred dollars less for the 1830 vs the 2230. The costs structure of the 3 machines takes the 1830 right out of consideration for some. I wasn't heart felt for any of the 3 but when costs came about I said to myself why would anyone buy the 1830 for 300 less than a 2230

I've cut my grass for 2 seasons now and and I haven't bogged it down yet. I also occasionaly cut the grass/weeds beside the road comming into the neighborhood. It can be 12 to 18 inches tall and I still don't bog down.

That is the way they are most of the time here to ...so the dealer had sat on mine for some time and cut the price to move it....I just walked in at the right time

How tight does the 1500 turn with the 54" deck? I was considering going zero turn but I have a pond with a steep bank and long term I think the SUB CUT would be more versitle and hold it's value better.

I'm not sure what my turning radius is, but with the hydrostat foot control you can really manuver it quickly. Cheers JBR

Have mine little over at year with 150 Hr. Most of it is loader work. This little 15 HP blows away my old 22 HP garden tractor. Pics of some of the projects done with a FEL.

Brian:

Like you, the predecessor to my BX22 was a Honda H4514. Man, I thought I was in heaven with that Honda -- nice mower with a smooth, quiet V-twin engine. Then I bought the BX. Wow. The Kubota diesel is louder, but every bit as smooth and oh so much more powerful. Your Honda probably has a tighter turning radius than the BX 1500, but with the power steering and foot operated hydro, I find my BX to be more maneuverable than the Honda with hand operated hydro and no power steering.

As I recall, my Honda cost about 4 or 5k new in 1992. If Honda still made these great lawn tractors today, I'd imagine they'd run somewhere between 6 and 7k new. The BX 1500 is somewhere around 8k new. Not much of an increase given the greater capabilities of the BX line. My advice? Go for it.

Almost forgot -- you'll grow to love the sound of that diesel. I'm a little weird. I even like the smell of the exhaust. Makes me feel like I'm really getting some work done. Attached is a pic of my old Honda next to my BX22.
