long term use

We have some antiques; a couple of end tables, a secretary, a lawyer's book case and a china cabinet; all well over 100 years old. Then we have a Regulator school house pendulum clock that we wind once a week and it keeps good time. My guess is probably 150+ years of age. I do have a 1952 Sears circle saw, but don't use it much.

It is not used daily, but often. My grandfather gave me a 12 pound maul head, with a new handle, for Christmas last year. He says he can remember his grandfather using it and his dad using it to split firewood. He told me he is too old and it is too heavy for him, so he wanted me to have it. I have not seen any discernible markings on it, but that痴 does not decrease the value to me.

Man, that sound is spectacular...and a beautiful instrument too. I learned to play back in the late 70's, even played in a bluegrass band for awhile. Started to law school and haven't picked mine up since...don't think I could even tune it any more, let alone play it. Luckily I do have recording of some stuff my guitar pickin' buddy (RIP) and I put together, oh 45 or so years ago.

It's a spectacular banjo. Most interesting thing about it is that it has that sort of sound without the benefit of a tone ring. It is very light compared to other banjos of its quality.
