My rule of thumb is decide what you need and then buy one model up from that. At least you won't outgrow it as quickly that way.

Well I tried out my new Stickmate 250 today. So far the machine is a dream to use. Small and light weight, seems to be well put together. Done a couple small repairs, worked great. I'll be getting more time in this weekend and will give some more reviews. For the money, so far I'm quite pleased with my welder.:thumbsup:

Well I've been doing some welding around the place now, and burning some rods up, and I'm very pleased with my Stickmate 250. The small size makes it easy to take to the work area, the short leads haven't bothered me like I thought it would. I bought a long extenision cord so I can take the unit to the work. The infinite adjustment is very nice, sometimes I found 5 amps lower or higher than my original setting was just the ticket. Storing the welder on a shelf so it does not take up much space is another big plus I didn't count on, just grab and go. Same if you had to use a dryer circuit or range circuit, the small size just works great to carry out to the driveway if needed. The DC welds like they said and is easy to strike up a arc. With a auto-dark helmet and the easy light arc, repairs are quick and easy. After using the Stickmate 250 I am highly pleased. Even if I didn't get the March deal,this is a great machine for the $$. If you can't swing the $$ for the 250, try looking at the lower amp models, I really haven't had to turn up the amps to get a good weld.
