He dealer near me called to tell me they had just finished prepping a 5240 that had came in. My wife and I went to look at it and wow what an amazing tractor, the hst+ features are fantastic. The ability to switch from high to low in each of the three ranges will work out very well with the terrain at my place. What really impressed me was the features that come standard on this machine that are an option (or not available) on the JD 4520 I was also looking at. The salesman was very helpful and let us take our time looking, I had my wife driving it around for probably 20+ minutes to make sure she was comfortable on a machine that big. So i have decided to go with the Kubota over the JD 4520, now i need to start shopping hard for pricing and decide between R4's and R1's. He quoted me a GL5240 HST+ with loader, loaded rear tires (R4's), BH92 hoe, and mechanical thumb for $42,000 not including sales tax. Building this same tractor on the Kubota site I get a price of about $46,250, they are giving me about a 9.25% discount from sticker, I think they can do better. Going to try to get in touch with Barlows today and see what they say.

That is a very nice tractor, if my 5030 HSTC ever wears out I will be buying a 5240 or 5740.

His discount is larger then you have stated. Kubota's price builder does not include assembly or the filled tires or the cost of getting that tractor to his dealership.

I noticed that also. I don't mind paying my local guy a little more than the best national price, because he's close and I do like to keep my $ spent as local as possible. :)

Careful. You're dangerously close to being the owner of a 5240. I love my 4240. The standard L tractors are nice, don't get me wrong, but for most once you get use tot he HST + you'll not want to give it up. I use the H-DS feature eveytime I'm on the tractor. It really excels in the hills.

The 5240 is a very easy machine to operate, my wife didn't have any trouble running it around and she is not very familiar with tractors. I'm definitely in danger of becoming a 5240 owner, but now I just have to decide if I want to pull the trigger now or wait till the beginning of May. There is the 0% for 48 months going on now which is nice but they might push it out to 60 months when spring rolls around one salesman told me. Decisions decisions.

My wife is very comfortable operating our L5030 HSTC, very easy machines to use.

Does she use a rear finish mower at all? That is one concern my wife has, she is used to a mid mount mower but is worried she will hit something because she forgets to look behind her when she turns. My plan is to use an old riding mower to trim around the house and trees so we don't have to get too close with the RFM.

She runs ours with a Land Pride RCR2672 which sticks out much more than a RFM. "Her tractor" is a BX2660 with MMM and she went pretty slow when learning to use the L5030, but soon became quite comfortable and hasn't hit anything yet, well that I know of; can't say the same thing for myself.
