This is spot on^ the 4025 or now 4540 will get you the most bang for your buck with Mahindra or any other 40hp out there imo

Lifting 2000 lb to 4 ft height--I'd opt for a tractor with an oversized loader, say 3000 lb. My Mahindra 5525 had an ML250 FEL with 6-ft wide bucket and 2950 lb lift at the pins to 10.5 ft height. I used it on my 10 acre place.

Let me ask this then. They are rated to full height at pin. With forks on the ssqa and weighted correctly could a loader with less capacity to full height still lift off a low trailer say a car hualer height? And if so could it drive it a few inches off the ground on flat ground?

I would say no, I burn coal and my 3015 Mahindra is rated at 1350 at pins, will only lift about a half a pallet.

If possible the more weight you shift twords the back of the pallet the better you will be able to lift. Not always possible though

The 5010 or the 2555 will do the job just fine, but you will need the rear tires loaded and plenty of ballast. This model has a short wheelbase and a very strong loader so it'll do a back wheelie in a hurry if not properly ballasted. The 4010 replacement is the 2540, and I'm not sure it will lift a ton equally spread on a pallet. It would be sketchy at best.

As mentioned by Navasot, if you go above the compact size into the utility size like a 4540 you get more built in weight. We sell a ton of the 10 series/2500 series in our area, and the 2555 would be my recommendation if you do not want to step up to the utility size.

thanks for the replies all. the more i think about what i need/want the machine to do the more im thinking a slightly smaller tractor in the 35hp range would fit my needs better. if i need to take 750 pounds or so of each pallet and put it on another pallet its not a big deal. I was just looking to save a handling step. but the tractor will be used all year round so a little lighter running over the lawn would not be a bad thing. and using it to mow would be nice. so if i need to add a ballast box to the rear while doing loader/snow removal work im ok with that. how does the 3616 stack up. what about other models in the 35-38hp range? again unloading pallets by hand to the half way point is not as big of a deal as i thought it was going to be. bought 1/2 ton a few times this year for connivance and it went very quick all by hand

If you split the pallets somewhat, a 3016 or a 3616 would work fine. They lift the same amount as they use the same loader, however the extra HP on the 3616 is sure handy at times. The 3016/3616 are built in Japan by Mitsubishi and are very fine machines. Dealers are running out of these though, soon they will be gone and you will be looking at the 1533/1538, which is the Tier IV version. Nice machines, but more $$.
