Maybe the best thing to do is just watch Craigslist daily and be patient and remain flexible.

Ditto. Watch Craislist. Here's a Searchtempest list set up for 'within 500 miles of Northern California', modify as needed for your locale.
Yanmar on SearchTempest

After I learned more about Yanmars and small tractors in general I decided to look for a 4wd YM186D, Yanmar's smallest with Powershift. I need the low overall height to maneuver under my orchard trees. It took 5 years of watching Craigslist before one appeared that wasn't thousands of $ overpriced! Anyone willing to sell one around here was real proud of their tractor.

I finally had to go 5 hours from here to get the first one that appeared at a reasonable price. The only one I passed up with regret was a near-new YM187D in Denver that would have been over $8k after shipping, gorgeous but not reasonable for my application.

My first Yanmar, the YM240, is good but not ideal for my use. With manual transmission it's a PIA to stop and shift every few hundred ft on the various slopes on this parcel. (photo) It is reliable, bulletproof, but the little YM186D has taken its place for most of the tractoring I do.

The reason it is important to check Craigslist daily is because the worthwhile deals move in a hurry. When I sold my Yanmar, I got a call that resulted in a sale within an hour after posting it.

you need to do more than that you need to get the app for your phone and save a search that notifies you when something is posted in your area with your specified keywords. Folks that seriously look for stuff do this his is how all the stuff is gone within hours. If you just check morning and evening or one of those a guy like me will swoop in buy it and haul it off before you even knew it was posted. All the deals are gone withing hours cause of this. The app is very useful. And you also need to have the cash ready and accessible, maybe even with you so that you can go look at a deal if you see one. I have bought plenty of things within hours and called within mutes of it being posted and also sold stuff the same way as well.

We need the name of that app!

I've had similar experiences, I asked many detailed questions on poorly-described equipment that wasn't getting any calls then as a consequence the seller improves his ad and he's getting buried in calls when I get there.

The YM186D I bought a couple of years ago was just listed as 'Tractor $1' until I asked too many questions and he improved his ad. I went down and laid out a couple of hundred $ bills as a deposit until I could get my trailer, then he was getting calls continually when I came back the next day with the trailer.

Buying my 3-point backhoe several years ago was similar, he didn't have 'Kubota' in the ad but it was visible in his photo. Including that would have gotten him far more calls. He got two calls while I was picking it up and I think his wife was pestering him "why did you wait until this morning to write an effective ad?"

The one I use is called CPro.

I think there are probably several that do the same thing. You had to get the pro version to have the notify feature. I think it was like $3, Mabe $6?? But I think now they may have just one version and it does it now anyway? But since I bought the pro I am not sure cause I would have the pro version forever, since it's a one time purchase?

Yes please let me know the name of this app if its not Search Tempest....which i am not found of.

Sounds like i could be very SOL on this, I travel pretty much non stop these days so the chances of being home when a deal comes up is next to none.

Keep my eyes open.....very appreciative for everyone help though.

That link said Tytan went bankrupt in 2013. Is anyone supporting those tractors now?

Tytan had a good size operation in Kalama, Wa a few years ago. Lots of tractors...equipment and parts. Totally gone now.....the building is for sale. Not aware of any other dealer now.

That is why you should stay away from chinese tractors. Jimina may be ok for sort term but a tractor isusually a long term purchase.
