One of the things that gets me with threads like this is that the OP (DonMcConnell) never even came back to give any feed back what so ever.:(

Good info for everyone else though.

Dunno.

But I do know that I ain't gonna claim that a 55hp engine will outwork a 65hp engine.

Go look at at [sic] Kabota threads if you want to single out stuff, there are hundreds.

What you seem to fail to understand is that there are literally thousands of Kubota tractors for every LS tractor, maybe tens of thousands. That fact really shows that you didn't put much thought or research into your post. The same goes for Mitsubishi engines; they can't hold a candle to Kubota engines. They didn't become one of, if not the largest, producer of small diesel engines by accident.

You don't think Kubota is a bigger company than Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, do you....? Anyway I just gave my 2 cents because two guy were chatting about why LS's seems to moving off the local lots while the Kubota's were not, I think I gave you all a good reason why, now you know....They are new to America, but they compare very favorably to any tractor on the market including Kubota, for quality, fit, finish, modern design, and assembly, modern reliable engines, and quality materials. And allot of people are looking them over and taking a chance based on what they see because they are very favorably priced, as much as 25% less in some cases. That sells tractors, or I would own a Kubota or a MF 1600 or even a JD.

My sentiments exactly. Same reason I bought a Korean Tractor (Kioti) and not Chinese or another Kubota.

If I was in the market for a new tractor I would certainly give LS a look since we have a local dealer here that has been a reputable part of the area for over 20 years with Kubota and Massey...

I agree with Messick that he has got to be in the 20% range under Kubota or Massey to penetrate the market and based on what I see driving by he has moved some units...

LS is just not that well known yet in these parts...

If I felt comfortable that the dealer would keep the line over the long haul I would give them a serious look because we keep tractors a long time...

I would think that resell on an LS would not be good...

I don't worry about orphan units...

We've got 4 orphaned AC's in the shed now...

I don't equate LS with an AC...

Kubota builds a HUGE amount more small diesel engines than Mitsubishi. Granted, it does not even remotely translate to tractor engines, but in vehicles techs refer to Mitsubishi as just a different way to spell Yugo. Either way, if you're happy with your tractor, that's all that matters. With no dealers in my area and no LS tractors around, I wouldn't consider one if they were 40% less. That amount would be lost in resale when I hit the street. I live in 'fly over country'. We don't change too fast around here. :)

While at times you get less than you pay for, you almost never get more than you pay for. There is a reason you paid less and it is the same reason as owners of FARMTRAC/MONTANA tractors paid less. You probably have a nice tractor for a fair price. To say it is the same as a DEERE, KUBOTA, MASSEY or such; uh, NO! To say the LS is superior because of a Miti engine ....

Like you say you are taking a chance: resale value, replacement value, future replacement parts, future dealer service and the biggest one of all-the design and build quality of the tractor you now own. Good luck.

While I can agree with you that there is an element of chance with any "new" company to the area, I will disagree about the build quality. It is fair to say I am taking a chance..to say that inferiority is the 25% difference is not accurate.
The biggest part of that difference is LS buying their way into the market the same way Mahindra did years ago (this is the chance factor you are talking about). The difference is not build quality and can be validated easily enough. One way to validate this is to ask yourself "If John Deere made the exact same product they do today but were new to North America, could they command the same price?" Of course not.. vis a vie LS Tractor would not do very well if they built an exact tractor to DEERE, et al.. and tried to sell it for the same price as DEERE, et al.. They MUST sell for less as they introduce themselves into North America. Therefore it is not accurate to say the reason is inferiority to DEERE et al. If you could support your inferiority argument with component research where they were using inferior components I might buy it just as I agreed with the "chance" argument and it's validity.
I like John Deere, I like New Holland, I like International Harvester, I like Kubota, I like Mahindra. I just like that I could buy an LS with very good components (including a time tested, industry proven Mitsubishi 4 cyl engine) for several thousand less. Everyone has their reasons and each are valid to the man in the mirror.
By the way...where is this instigator that started this thread?
