I've been lurking in and out of this forum for a long time. There is a lot of knowledge and thought provoking ideas traded around here. I need your input. I'm looking real hard at a 1715 with 445 hours, FEL, turf tires, 4 x 3 transmission. In fact I'm having it delivered towards the end of the week to demo it for a few days. I've been told that this unit has 27 PTO HP and 33 BHP. Everywhere I look seems to challenge that figure. Does anyone have, or know where I could look to get a true assessment of the HP rating? Also, given the above information, what would be a fair price for this unit? Thanks in advance for your comments.

John Miller,

Are those recent auctions?

Anyone own or know someone who owns one of these that could shed some light on repair history?

What is the breakout force of the loader?

So many questions, so little time!!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Are those recent auctions?...

Those auction dates are listed...

1715 is very similar to 1720, less hydraulic horsepower, less 3-pt lift capacity, basic transmission...

This 1715 was sold as a leader model...

Great to hear you are looking at the 1715. I have owned one about a year now and love this little tractor. It is just about the perfect size for my situation (33 acres). With FEL and bushhog it is perfectly balanced. The four wheel drive will come in handy, especial then things get sloppy. As far as depedability, I could not ask for more. It has been run in temps as low as 20 deg. to as high as 100 deg, and never missed a beat. It is hard to judge fuel use but I can go a long time on a tank of fuel. The only disadvantage I see is that all filters (fuel, oil, air and hydralics) cost in the range of $70, from local NH dealer.
Bottom line---Great tractor for the money. Enjoy

Alabama_Blue,

Would you know off hand what the break out force of the FEL is? How much weight can you safely carry in the bucket. The reason I'm asking is I have some large boulders I want to move. I'm still waiting for the dealer to deliver it to find out myself.

Don't quot me on this, but I think its somewhere around 2200 lb. My FEL was dealer installed "Bush Hog" brand, and I have been very happy with its performance. It will pick up the back end of the tractor if I hook the bucket in tree roots or such.
Good luck with the boulders!

Well I did it! I put together the deal today. I am now the proud new owner of a 1715. As luck would have it we are getting about a foot of snow at the moment, so I went out and plowed some snow with the bucket just to get some seat time. The only thing that drove me back inside was the cold temps. Tractor did everything I asked of it and more. Looking forward to some better weather so I can play on different tasks. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great to hear about the new addition to the family.
I looked at the manual the other night and the FEL load is 1750, sorry for the wrong info.
I dont have any dealings with snow down south here, but I used my 1715 two days this weekend to till and prepare our garden, then bushhogged about 4 acres. I cant live without it! Two good days of work, not solid running, but good work and used a little over 1/2 tank of fuel!

O.K. so where are the pics? We must have a visual on this tractor, ??

Here's what I got so far. More to follow. I've been in a discovery mode for the past week. Gone over just about every inch of it. It seems to be a very thought out design. The plug in heater doesn't seem to be working, I'll have to address that with the dealer. There is a bit of a squeal in the hydraulics, almost like a cavitation sound when rolling the bucket at higher RPM's. Could there be trapped air in the system? It seems to have been well maintained, just doing a little clean up on where fuel was spilled when filling and left to collect dust.

We ended up with 20" of snow last week so I let the snowblower sit and used the FEL to push snow. Took a bit longer but that was in part due to a learning curve. Had a great time just the same. Rolled the bucket all the way forward, left it about an inch off the ground and in mid-range, second gear, she pushed real well. Had to lock it FWD going up the drive.

All in all, for what it is, it's a pretty impressive machine.

I'll get some pics of it today and post later.

It is my understanding the 'rumbling squeal' of the hydraulics is normal on these models of Ford tractors. My 1720 does the same. It's not harmful, just the way the oil is routed & flowing, set up a howl.

Great looking ride! I wish mine was that clean!
Mine also makes a sound from the hydralics, but only a low temps. When its warm or after about 30 min in cold weather, its quiet. Judging from the snow on the ground, its cold there. I bet when things warm up, it will be less noticable.

Hopefully that's what he did. The engine compartment is in the same condition, very clean. The dealer said the guy was a landscape contractor. It had turf tires on it when I first looked at it. I had them swap them for ags and they're filled to boot. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Thanks for the positive comments, makes me feel better and better about the deal. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Alabama Blue,

That's kinda what I was thinking. It was about 35* when I snapped these pics. That's the warmest it's been since I got the tractor. All the snow was gone, then mother "N" dumped 20" on us last Friday.
