Looking at new and used Kubota BX's

I agree that a B would do better if it can be arranged. More ground clearance for about the same price and less likely to high center if you get one side off of the hard packed snow going down to the barn (as has happened with our BX a couple of times).
Also, no transmission fan underneath to break with sticks...

When I take her to the dealer I will have her look both the BX and B over and see how they compare. I have already been concerned with the multiple people who have had issues with the fan on the BX. It would have been one of the first mods, either fabing up a belly plate or buying one.

If you go with a loader I think the the loader on the BX2630-2660 has more load capacity .

If she goes with a new one I would go with at least a BX2360 because it has 4 more pto horsepower than a 1860, lager tires, you can get a 60'' mmm, and the loader lifts more like Iowan said. She may want to look at the new BX70 series, the new seat looks really nice. I think it is similar to the seat on a Grand L.

Capacity is a moot point, it will be a glorified wheel barrow. I doubt it will ever touch dirt except by accident. It will just be handy for her to move debris and anything else she may want.

:) :) :) I have to smile at this. I bought my first tractor about 10 years ago. I was buying a life time mower with 4wd because my property is on a hillside. Your statement could have come out of my mouth almost word for word and probably did a few times.:D
I believe the BX1800 series will do what work she currently needs done very well. You know size can cut down time and as long as she isn't in a hurry then the smallest will get the job done. As long as she doesn't decide to venture a bit further than the current plans then no problem. My problem was I kept venturing further and further and further into areas I never imagined my life time mower with expensive wheelbarrow would do and then the theraputic value of tearing up ground and push trees and debris and stuff. If she goes there then she can keep it for mowing and get another bigger one, borrow yours or sell/trade it for a bigger one. The SCUTs are workhorses in disguise.:thumbsup:

We have a couple of BX's and a John Deere 2305, also like you have other tractors for the heavier work and the BX's have been great little machines for everything we have asked often exceeding their design parameters. We put HST guards on and wheel spacer on one to use in extremes. My wife loves "her tractors". We had to repo the BX2200 not long ago and have it fixed, could have sold it "as is" several times and the dealer wanted to sell it for us, so there is a demand for them.

I am sure you have seen the posts by bp fick and JOHNTHOMAS on the B v BX, we like out SCUTS fine.

If she is just mowing and doing snow removal, she will not have an issue with the fan. If you buy the used unit- make sure the fan is intact.

If she planned to use it in the woods or other rough area, the skid plate is a great addition.

I've had my BX2350 about 5 years now. I've never been disapointed with the performance of it yet. I use a rear blade and the FEL for moving snow and mow a couple of acres with a 60" MMM. For a lot of snow, a snow blower is the way to go, but if you don't get a lot of snow, a rear blade is a cheap option. As far as how much work can be done with the FEL with a BX, it depends on what you are used to. If you are used to using a full size tractor with a FEL, it will seem pretty lame. If you are used to using a shovel and a wheel barrow, it will seem like a D8.

LOL:laughing::thumbsup::laughing:

As I'm still at the shovel stage, I could really appreciate your observation, dodge man!
