Looking for a Duramax

   / Looking for a Duramax #42
I have a late model 2006 CC LBZ which was discontinued in 2007 as the "Classic." Not my daily driver as it is a PIA around town and parking lots which is why it only has 85K on the odometer. This is my first and hopefully last diesel and the pulling power is unbelievable. Hooked up to my 7K pound camper you hardly notice you are pulling a load. The 6-speed tranny is great and in the "towing" mode it is great at using the engine for braking. For a heavy hauler the ride is very good and my wife prefers it to any of our other vehicles. The only expensive repair I have had is front wheel bearing replacement and this problematic for all these trucks. Bearings only last from 30 - 75K. If you have a big breaker bar and 3-hours they are easily replaced for about $300. I average 16mpg hwy and city driving and 12-14 towing depending on the load. Anyone tells you they are getting 20+ mpg in a heavy diesel truck failed basic math or more likely failed to recalibrate there computer for non-stock tire size. With an aftermarket programmer and intake and exhaust mods you can get some insane performance from these engines but longevity and reliability suffer. If you take your time looking you can still find good used 2006-2007 LBZ Duramax with low mileage for around $25K

I hope they have improved those front unit bearings for 2014. They are a pain,

Up here until 2013, ordering a maxx trailer package got the 6.2. Now for 2014, that gets the 5.3 . But it should be fine ,

Not many dealers order that in because they want you to get a 3/4 ton diesel.

$11k for the dmax option up here, guess that is why we have more 6.2's maxx trailer trucks up here.

Id still take a Duramax next truck though!'
