Looking for new discbine

Just curious. Why do you need a mower-conditioner?
There's a long list of equipment that I would like to have for my farm, but a mo-co is not on the list. (I have 60 acres of bermuda/bahaia hay meadows) Nobody around here uses a mo-co. With summertime temperatures that average close to 100 degrees and 14-15 hours of sunshine, I would think that a conditioner would just add cost and would slow the cutting process.

As far as a rotary disc mower, I have a Kuhn GMD 600 and a JD 265. (same mower, different paint job) Both are 6 disc, or 8' mowers.

Bigfoot62, Do you know what a new JD 265 sold for about 3 years ago? Ken Sweet

The conditioner doesn't slow down the process.

I agree, We use a 10 John Deere Discbine and it actually helps get the spring hay up about 1 day early without excessive bleaching of the hay. A straight Disc mower is my second choice at a whole lot less money. Our New Fort "First Choice" 9 ft 2 inch disc mower is running $6895. Ken Sweet

Not exactly. I would guess somewhere in the neighborhood of $8k. I bought mine, used, three years ago for $2500.

Perhaps in a huge field that was straight and square, but in my pastures there are numerous trees and fences. A trailed (pull-type) mower would take much longer to turn around than a 3-pt hitch mounted mower. Last time I checked, all mo-co's are trailed.

You're in Kentucky. I'm in central LA and the original poster is in south TX. I don't think you have quite the same weather that we do down here.

I actually prefer a moco for around trees and other obstacles. You can use the hydraulics on the unit to pull the unit in and push it back out as much a you need without having to swerve around a lot. I have used both quite a bit and i would take a moco over a regular old disk mower any day.

We have a JD dealer 25 miles away that has a 265 that is 3 years old. He asks $8,000 for it. We have one 3 years old and we ask $4750 for it. Both are in identical condition. That Deere dealer must have a lot of overhead to cover. Ken Sweet

The OP is cutting hayfields, not pastures. Leave the pasture mowing to the bush hog.

I can't imagine any significant negative to a conditioner in any climate.

This one isn't.

They are a absolute must for alfalfa and large stem type hay. Grass hay, not so much needed. Ken Sweet
