Looking for some rear ballast ideas

Get a Cross Drawbar
Get 2 pieces of threaded rod that fits in the holes with two nuts each.
Get free/chaep worn out break rotors (I always keep mine if I have to buy new ones) from a local car shop or junk yard.
Thread the bar through the rotor centers, add the threaded rod through Cross Drawbar holes as stoppers so the rotors don't slide much. If necessary, screw wood spacers/ between rotors to keep them from moving.
When you remove the gizmo rest it on a platform to make sure the 3 point hitch arms can fall below the pins.
Pat's Easy Hitch makes a good quick hitch if you don't want to align and lift hitch arms and let's you use a post hole digger.

My take on a homemade ballast box. Just poured it yesterday. Somewhere around 650 lbs. I use Pat's so I didn't have to worry with quick hitch fitment issues. Now the hard part. Waiting for it to cure.

I guess if I had tight quarters - I might consider a ballast box. But I don't - so I don't.
