Dealer Looking for someone to help take a look at a tractor in Joplin MO

I have seen that one, but it is $3000 more expensive which plain and simple puts it out of my price range, looks like it has the 60" deck instead of the 72", and I doubt I could get him anywhere close to the price of the one in Joplin. My understanding of the dealer is that they are pretty firm on their prices. Shipping is far less than that difference in price.

Closer to $2000 difference but I didn't pay attention to the mower width... I don't know what shipping would be but I'd think $500-$1000. I don't know anything about shipping large items. You must be a lot braver than me cause I'd never buy a piece of used equipment from so far away. If anything at all goes wrong after you get it home, your stuck holding the ball.

Shipping should be $500 give or take a little. If I can get the tractor for $9000 flat, then with shipping I am still close to $3k in savings, especially when considering the added tax from that $3k. The one is saxton also has a snow blower not pictured which would be nice, but it is still kind of a moot point because I don't have $12k to spend, I have less than $10k.
Realistically, they are used tractors with no warranty sold as is, so if one turned out to be a lemon after getting it home I can't imagine either seller offering anything after the sale regardless of whether he is 200 miles away or 1000 miles away.

Asking someone to look over a tractor (or anything else, for that matter) is a risk...even if both partys have the best of intentions.
To paraphrase an old saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" a good tractor is somewhat subjective. I, for one, am less impressed with how it looks as long as it performs up to my expectations.
So, based upon another's opinion and impressions, Spring1898 could well be very disappointed in his purchase....and could resent the TBNer who went that extra mile for him.
There's also the fact that some peoples' judgement just isn't that good.

So, there are the risks...

Agreed, there is always risk, even if you look it over yourself. I don't buy a diesel truck without expecting to put in $2k worth of service/upgrades/parts over the next couple years.
But I think most people would be most interested in the mechanical condition if the tractor is going to be a workhorse. The varying levels of preference towards the cosmetic are just that.
But to be resentful toward someone who did an honest favor is just immature and irresponsible. The final responsibility lies with the person who passes the money across the table.

I hear Joplin is beautiful this time of year... maybe you should bite the bullet and just fly out for a quick visit. And, I remember reading that Fastenal has a freight hauling service that can be very cost effective. Might want to look into them?

Believe me, if I had the option (and the funds) to make a trip down to Joplin, I would, but I don't. I have not heard of Fastenal, but I could look into them, but that is only after I can get someone to do a once over.

Went today and started it up. I did not drive it as I said before. Those people didn't come out at all and I was there for a good 30 minutes. Not good sales people. The hood is dented on top and it was left out in the weather. It had a new seat out on it. It started fine and sounds good. I raised the bucket and didn't hear any squalls. Bathe mower is beat some underneath but this is Missouri. Lots of rocks. Has a leak underneath. Looked like hydraulic oil.
